Segundo intento/ Second attempt

For Easter I traveled this road between Alto Jahuel and Chada and I did not get any photo that I liked, now in this second attempt I have photos that I do like and it confirms that I have more control on what I want. The first photo is an image of Christ which is at the entrance of Huerquén.
At the side of the same road these cactus still with its fruits called tunas begin to bloom again.
In Chada I found this chapel at the side of a Benedictine nuns monastery. I’m still looking for these saturated photos and these dark skies which everybody don' t like but for my are immediate sign of a day of bright sun and blue skies.

This Pottery Thursday was rather an alchemy session because we did not touch clay but it was one of the most interesting in order we began to prepare our own glazes. I have the luck to be in a quite homogenous group in our interest to learn so much the theory as the practice. In addition there is the contribution of each in knowledge, aid and good humour. A separate point is to be able to have access to the knowledge of our professor Francisco Olivares.
From the photographic point of view as always I did not use flash to take advantage of the natural illumination, looking for a position respect to the origin of the light that gets the best volumes and textures. A bad election of this position and the photos would be as flat as it had used flash. Color would not contributed with anything to these photos.

Insectos otra vez/ Bugs again

Answering a request in the previous entrie and having relation with photographic technique I reprint now yesterday’s photo in a black and white version so it serves as comparison. In the color version there are two points of attention: the higher bug and in contrast the red bug that is practically in the line of sight of the first one. In the black and white photo the bug at the top only stands out reinforcing the idea that lead to me at a first moment to title this photo like " The Leader of the Band".

Insectos/ Bugs

Today I took this photo before a question: How close it was for taking the bee photo. The answer is: You can get this proximity using a special macro lens that allows to focus approximately to 2 centimeters. Although after seeing some of these photos it is perhaps better not to know as much.

El último y el primero/ The last and the first

Today is the last day of this long weekend and in my way back to Santiago thinking about an image for today I realized that I needed this: a kid and his kite.
And with the head full of other preoccupations I forgot that today also is the first official day of spring time, which, to tell the truth, without any respet to a schedule it has already arrived by its own several weeks ago.

Desgraciadamente estaba cerrada y no pude tomar fotos adentro.
I went early to San Jose de Maipo to take my photos from today. First it is the parochial church in front of the City Square. Unfortunately it was closed and I could not take photos inside.
The second photo is this chapel that according to the signboard on the door was a chapel of the National Service of Health.
This is another corner of the City Square: The front of the Escuela Mixta Superior, the High School.
And finally very early Don Ulises installs his table where he sells medicinal herbs which gathers climbing the hills.

Caminando cerca/ Walking around

I took a walk by the road to San Jose, it was a little late but at least I got these two images to post something today. First is this iron gate very rusted but certainly with a little painting would be very nice.
The second photo is this old truck parked in the entrance of a house and surely it lived better times but in any case in this old road it does not looks strange.
Finally in order to add a bit of color I took this flower in my house, that unfortunately cannot include its intense aroma.

Today I went to Liray, near Santiago, searching for some images on the previous day to our independence day. The first image is this small restaurant with its flag waiting the first costumers tonight.
The second image is this alley that leads to the entrance of the ranch Liray which gives the name to this area. There still are a few of images like this in the proximities of Santiago. These large clay containers were used to keep chicha, a traditional sweet wine of Chile.
In the same alley the photo of Don Segundo Jara, who approached to tell me that he was a worker at this ranch and now and lives in a small house nearby.

Muy cansado/ Very tired

Día soleado/ Sunny day

The first photo for this Pottery Thursday is our assistant Pedro, preparing soap to use it like releasing agent and to spill plaster to finish a mold. In the image he looks very patient and calmed and this is the way he is with us.
And the second image without being a contribution to the photographic quality is the bowl I just finished turning and is let to dry before firing next week.

Vagabundos/ Homeless

I took these photos very early today, a homeless group observes as they began to demolish the old house that used as refuge, wearing helmets. The man at the first image poses for the photo and he requests a copy, then he calls his friends for the second photo.
This strange situation takes place and under the confusion by the wine from the bottles they are drinking they poses happily celebrating the demolition. As it always happens photos appears where less they are expected.

Reciclando/ Recycling

Time for a bit of philosophy: I bought this old lathe that is still in use. The photo is not here because of its quality, is for illustrating a subject that I wanted to comment long time ago, we would not have to recycle, recycling is only necessary because somebody invented disposable products, before we did not waste things, we only changed the blade on shaving machines, the bottles were returned to the factory for refilling, the tools lasted, the electric home appliances were repaired, the shoes lasted and they were repaired, it was not necessary to pay expensive packages to show and to praise the product that we know that it goes inside. Now everything is wasted and the worse thing is that we must pay the product that interests to us, which it is not of the best quality, plus its waste.

Más del norte/ Photos from the north

A rusted backhoe lies like a dead prying mantis.
In contrast, the life and color of this goat.

Corto viaje/ Short trip

Yesterday I had to leave to a short trip to the North again, so, there was no entry. Today I uploaded some of the images of this trip. In the first photo: Kindergarten children in this park in Los Vilos taking a lunch, very quiet and obedient.
Don Ramon, from Caimanes, at the counter of his bar waiting for customers. When they arrive they are only men. Lentamente voy incorporando personas a mis fotos.
Rented Pool tables, also owned by Don Ramon, Saturday afternoon, two young guys playing. Slowly I am incorporating people to my photos.

Padre e hijo/ Father and son

Today is pottery Thursday but the image of my last piece is going to have to wait. However I have this image, a father and his son, searching the alleys looking for junk steel to sell. The boy's name is Mario and without asking him I am sure he is happy and proud to accompany his father, without no thought if this work can be humble or not.

Dos imágenes y mucho gris/ Two images and a lot of gray

Today I have two images, the first one again is a very dense image in tonality. I reached the conclusion that I like these dense photos, deep gray, instead to clear and transparent images.
It took me some time to decide the second image since I had a version without people but that mysterious gentleman with the umbrella gives another sense to the photo. The winter does not want to leave us.

Mis primeras herramientas/ My first tools

Recently I gave a tool to a nephew and by coincidence I found this small hand drill. So I searched for these other tools which in this wood suitcase my father gave to my brother for his birthday, anyway I also consider them as first tools. As I can recall there was also a hammer and a little hacksaw. On the background there are old Hobby magazines that were my first inspiration.
