It's amazing to see this flower, which should be about 8 cm. diameter actually consists of several hundred of small flowers as seen in the photo below, each with its pistil, stamen, petals and pollen.

Ingenio humano/ Human Ingenuity

This man after the national anthem, the salute to the authorities, the speeches of the mayor, the priest, got tired of waiting in the sun and decided to make himself a shade.

As in all human activities some related facts are happening around.

Trilla a yegua, los hombres/ Mare threshing, the men.

Once the wheat has been trampled by mares the men remove the straw to let the horses pass a second time and the grain will fall to the ground. Men with their pitchforks are walking in the circle by increasing concentric circles to cover the whole terrain.

As always in these activities where people gather I do some shots of faces. These are some of the faces of threshing, faces tanned by the sun, work and a hard life.

Trilla a yegua, los jinetes/ Mare threshing, the riders

Riders who herd the mares changes direction, turning to the right a time and then turn to the left. Young and older men hold the reins of their horses to run mares.

Trilla a yegua/ Mare threshing.

Today I went to a mare threshing. Here in Chile, formerly, wheat was threshed by mares, wheat sheaves are spread inside a circle and a group of mares are herded by horsemen over them to separate the wheat from the chaff. Another group of men within this arena throw the sheaves into the with pitchforks.
