Lo lograron/ They made it

Lo que parecía imposible, volver a tender un tramo de vias en el Cajón del Maipo finalmente fué lograron. Gracias a la gente del Proyecto Ave Fénix y al primer impulso de Luis León la primera parte del proyecto ya va a quedar completa.
What seemed impossible, re-lay a section of tracks at Cajon del Maipo was finally achieved. Thanks to the people of Phoenix Project and the first impulse of Luis Leon the first part of the project is almost completed.

Usando antiguas herramientas uno a uno se van poniendo los tornillos para afirmar las vias.
Using old tools they are putting the screws one by one to secure the tracks.

Frente a la estación de El Melocotón se van tendiendo las vías, una principal y dos secundarias que desvían a la estación y al galpón de máquinas.
At the front of the station the tracks are being laid, the main one and two secondary toward the station and engine shed.

La locomotora diesel Jung con el primer carro restaurado esperan sobre las nuevas vías recién tendidas.

The Jung diesel locomotive restored with the first car waiting on the new tracks recently laid.

Ahora falta verter el balasto para cubrir los durmientes y dejar completo el trabajo de tendido. Los viejos rieles provenientes de la estación de Balmaceda en el norte de Chile vuelven a servir.

Just the ballast is needed to cover the sleepers and the work is ready. The old rails from Balmaceda station in northern Chile ready to serve again.

El interior del carro restaurado, madera nativa barnizada, vidrios nuevos y las banderas de señales sobre la banca esperan para iniciar la marcha.

The interior of the restored coach, varnished native wood, new windows and the signaling flags on the bench waiting to start.

Torno en mi taller/ Pottery wheel at my workshop

Ahora queya hace menos frío retomé el torno en mi taller. Esta primera pieza facetada es para reemplazar una que se trizó en el secado en las clases.

Esta es una serie que quiero iniciar esmaltando brillante el interior y probar esmalte mate con arena en el exterior.

Piezas terminadas/ New pieces

Hace algún tiempo que tenía estas piezas listas pero no las había fotografiado. En estas primeras el esmalte blanco corrío más de lo que pensaba pero el resultado o es malo.

En esta segunda el esmalte quedó más delimitado y logré el efecto que quería de lograr quiebres en el color en la parte superior.

La primavera se acerca/ Spring time is arriving

En mi caminata también encontré algo de color, la primavera ya está mostrando sus primeros colores.
In my walk I also found some color, spring is showing its first color.

Esta otra flor es de mi patio, me encanta esta flor ya que es muy aromática, una fresia en mi casa, curioso....

This is a flower from my little garden, I love this flower because it is very aromatic, we call it here fresia.

Caminando/ Walking around

En mi caminata de hoy tomé algunas fotos, la primera solo una composición de grises y formas como me gustan a mi.
In my walk I took some pictures today, the first only a composition on gray the way I like it.

Estas dos para ilustrar el muro de un jardín infantil decorado con estas pinturas un tanto naif pero que me gustaron mucho.

These two are a on the wall of a nursery, a bit naive but I liked a lot.

Exposición de fotos/ Photo exhibition

Hoy fuí a otra exposición de fotos y sabía de antemano que me iba a gustar, ya que son dos de los fotógrafos chilenos que más me gustan: Paz Errazuriz y Luis Poirot y no me decepcioné de lo que vi. Esta exposición retrata a 27 artistas en sus talleres, la mayoría retratados ahora y algunas fotos del archivo de Luis Poirot. Debo reconocer que siempre me ha gustado muchisimo más el trabajo de este último ya que lo encuentro más cercano a lo que yo hago. Como siempre no estaba permitido tomar fotos en la sala así que ilustro esta exposición con esta composición mia sobre el catalogo de la muestra.
Today I went to a new photo exhibition and knew beforehand that I would like it, because they are two Chilean photographers that I like: Paz Errazuriz and Luis Poirot and I am not disappointed by what I saw. This exhibition are portrays of 27 artists in their workshops, the majority have been taken just now and some photos of Luis Poirot archive. I must admit that I've always liked a lot more Poirot's work since I find it closer to what I'm doing. As always I was not allowed to take pictures in the exhibition room so I'm illustrating this entry with a composition on the catalog of the exhibition.

Día de la fotografía/ Photography day.

Hoy se celebra el día de la fotografía, así que debo subir alguna foto para el día de hoy. Una de las caracteristicas de la fotografía es congelar el tiempo por eso hice una pequeña composición de fotos familiares, mi Mamá y mi tía el año 1930, mi hermano mi Papá al principio de los 60, mi Mamá, una tía y nosotros al final de los 60 y mi abuelo por los años 70.

Museo Nacional de Historia Natural/ National Museum of Natural History

No había entrado a este Museo desde que era niño acompañado por mis Papás y la imagen que tenía en mi mente era bastante distinta a la real.
I had not come to this museum since I was a kid with my parents and the image I had in my mind was quite different from the real.

Lo que si recordaba era el esqueleto de este cachalote, claro que lo recordaba mucho más grande y suspendido a mayor altura.

What I did recall is this skeleton of a sperm whale, of course I remember it much bigger.

Sábado lluvioso/ Rainy Saturday

Hoy resultó ser un Sábado lluvioso así que decidí ir al parque de la Quinta Normal a tomar fotos.
Today was a rainy Saturday and I decided to go to the Quinta Normal park to take pictures.

La primera sorpresa al llegar fué encontar a estos cuasimodistas acompañando la Camioneta del Padre Hurtado quien fué declarado Santo de la Iglesia Católica hace poco.
The first surprise on arriving was to find these Quasimodo accompanying the truck and an image of Father Hurtado, who was declared a Saint of the Catholic Church recently.

El invernadero de la Quinta Normal está abandonado y no está claro la fecha de su origen aunque algunos sostienen que fue construido con motivo de la Exposición Universal de 1875 que se desarolló en este parque y según otra fuente habría sido construdo en 1892.
The greenhouse at the Quinta Normal is abandoned and it is not clear its origin date, although some argue it was built for the Universal Exhibition of 1875 which took place in the park and in other source says it would have been built in 1892.

La idea era encontrar imagenes de invierno y lluvia y creo que con esta se logra el objetivo que buscaba para hoy.

The idea was to find pictures of winter and rain and I think this achieved the goal sought for today.

A pesar de la fuerte lluvia fué una gran decisión venir hoy a tomar fotos ya que no había prácticamente nadie de visita lo que dió la oportunidad de tomar las fotos sin personas alrededor.

Despite the heavy rain it a good decision coming today to take pictures because there was nobody visiting it giving me the opportunity to take photos without people around.

Lo más conocido y recordado por todos en este parque es la laguna donde se arriendan estos botes a remo.

The most known and remembered by everyone in this park is the lake where these rowing boats are rented.

Instalando rieles/ Laying tracks

Después de aproximadamente 100 años se vuelven a instalar rieles en el Cajon del Maipo como parte del Proyecto Ave Fenix para recuperar y mantener las máquinas e instalaciones de este tren que ya no corre más.
After about 100 years rails are being re-installed at Cajon del Maipo here in Chile as part of this Ave Fenix Project to recover and maintain the locomotives, rolling stock and facilities of this train wich is no longer running.

La operación es similar a lo que ha sido desde siempre, apalancando durmientes para deslizarlos bajo las vias y estabilizarlos en el balasto. Estos rieles provienen del Ferrocarril Antofagasta Bolivia.

The operation is similar to what has always been: leveraging ties to slide under the track and stabilize then with ballast. These tracks come from the "Antofagasta Bolivia Railroad".

Al momento solo se instalara una corta via al interior de la Estación de El Melocotón en el Cajón del Maipo y la intención es dejar corriendo la locomotora diesel Jung en este trazado para Septiembre de este año 2009.

They are installing only a short way inside El Melocoton station here and the intention is to leave the Jung diesel loco running at this track this year to September 2009.

Exposición inspirante/ Inspirational photo exhibition.

Ayer fuí a la inauguración de una exposición del fotografo Frances Guy Petermann, Sueños de Patagonia, que como indica el nombre son fotos de la zona austral. La verdad es que me gustó su trabajo, ya que tiene un estilo que comparto y es un lugar que me gusta mucho. Pero, después de haber visto varias exposiciones que personalmente encontré sin ningún valor es gratificante ver un trabjo bueno. Pero lo principal es que quedé siendo un estilo muy parecido al mio me dio nuevos brios para seguir juntando material para mi propia exposición.
Yesterday I went to the opening of an exhibition of this French photographer Guy Petermann, Dreams of Patagonia, which as the name says are pictures of the southern zone. The truth is I liked his work because it has a style that I share and is a place that I love. After seeing several photo exhibitions that I personally found no value is gratifying to see a good work. But the main thing is that being his style very similar to mine gave me a new impetus to continue collecting material for my own exhibition.

En el Blog nuevamente/ On the Blog again.

Estas dos últimas semanas no tuve inspiración para retomar el Blog. Durante mi viaje todos los dias se presentaban lugares espectaculares para tomar nuevas fotos, paisajes, personas, eventos. Ahora acá, de vuelta, nada ha sido motivador para publicar en el blog, y eso que he tomado algunas fotos. Puede ser, por otra parte, que me encantó haber retomado esos viajes, el estar manejando todos los días a un lugar nuevo, con los ojos abiertos a ver que se presentaba. Y finalmente, también, que mi cabeza quedó con otros pensamientos más personales dando vueltas. En fin, hay que reiniciar esto y hoy con esta simple foto, un rincón lleno de tonos grises como me gusta a mi.
These last two weeks I had no inspiration to return to the Blog. During my journey every day were discovering spectacular places to take photos, landscapes, people, events. Now here, nothing has motivated me to post on the blog, and I do have taken some photos. It may, moreover, that I loved to have take these trips again, driving every day to a new place, with eyes wide open to see new things. And finally, too, that my head has some more personal thoughts spinning around. Anyway, I have to restart it and now with this simple picture, a place full of shades of gray as I like.
