Flores de montaña en El Morado/ Mountain flowers at El Morado

Al igual que en otros paseos a la montaña aproveché de tomar fotos de estas flores silvestres.
As in other mountain walks I took photos of these wild flowers.

El color dominante de las flores en esta zona es el amarillo como este impresionante ramillete.

The dominant color of flowers in this area is yellow as this stunning bouquet.

Esto que se ve como flores individuales realmente no lo es. Cada flor está constituida por muchas flores diminutas. Cada manojo debe medir aproximadamente 1,5 cm.
This flower, which could be seen as individual flower, really it is not. Each flower consists of many tiny flowers. Each bundle should be about 1.5 cm.

Lo mismo ocurre con esta otra flor que debe medir aproximadamente 2 cm. de alto.
The same happens with this other flower that should be about 2 cm tall.

Esta otra de petalos delgados parece ser una sola flor pero guarda una sorpresa.
This other one, with thin petals, seems to be a single flower but keeps a surprise.

Al hacer un acercamiento a un pequeño sector de la foto anterior se descubre que la sorpresa no es solo ver que tiene innumerables pistilos sino ver ese pequeño ácaro que solo acabo de descubrir al revisar la foto.

Making a close up to a small section of the previous photo is revealed that the surprise is not only to see that it has many pistils but see this little mite that I discovered only when reviewing the photo.

Monumento Natural El Morado/ El Morado Natural Monument

Ayer fuí a caminar al Monumento Natural El Morado, un area protegida que tiene una ruta que conduce al glaciar San Francisco.
Yesterday I went to walk to El Morado Natural Monument, a protected area that has a trail leading to the San Francisco Glacier.

Solo ingresé un tercio del camino ya que la ruta completa dura seis horas. La foto está tomada en el sector llamado Aguas Panimávidas. Acá comienza este valle que conduce a la laguna y al glaciar.
I did only one third of the way, the full path to the glacier take six hours. The picture was taken in the area called Aguas Panimávidas. Here begins the valley leading to the lake and the glacier.

Para llegar a este punto la ruta viene en constante ascenso por una huella demarcada. Al centro se ve el sector de Lo Valdes.
To get to this point the route climbs constantly by an demarcated trail. In the center of the photo is the area of Lo Valdes.

Desde los cerros caen pequeñas cascadas que alimentan el río que desagua el glaciar.
There are a lot of these small waterfalls that feed the river which drains the glacier.

Estos cerros quedan en el sector de Lo Valdes al frente del acceso del parque.

These hills are in the area of Lo Valdes in the access at the front of the park.

Cerro San Cristobal/ San Cristobal Hill

Ayer subí el cerro San Cristóbal ubicado en el medio de Santiago. Este cerro constituye nuestro Parque Metropolitano y es la sede de nuestro Zoológico.
Yesterday I took a walk through this hill we have in the midlle of the city. It's called San Cristobal, St. Christopher, and it is also our metropolitan park where our zoo is located.

Tiene una gran cantidad de bien cuidados jardines, pero principalmente son zonas de bosques. Otras areas están dedicadas a viveros para preservar la flora nativa.

It has lots of well tended gardens, but are mainly forested areas. Other areas are devoted to nursery to preserve the native flora.

La cumbre tiene 880 msnm y se eleva 280 metros sobre el nivel de la ciudad.

The summit is at 880 m amsl and rises 280 meters above the city.

No muchas ciudades en el mundo pueden decir que tiene estas vistas.

Not many cities in the world can claim to have these views.

Locomotora vapor vivo/ Live steam update

Finalmente mi locomotora corre a paso más o menos seguro con su cabina nueva. La cabina es una copia aproximada de la locomotora Panchita, Jung 0-6-2, que está ubicada en el Cajón del Maipo cerca de Santiago.

Finally I got my Dacre loco running with its cab. The design is based on this Jung 0-6-2t locomotive located at Cajon del Maipo, near Santiago.

Estación Río Blanco/ Rio Blanco station

En el camino hacia Portillo está ubicada esta estación de trenes, antes de uso del ferrocarril transandino, ahora de uso para una compañia minera.
On the road to Portillo is located this train station, it was used for the Transandine railroad, now used for a mining company..

La mitad de la estación está abandonada y la otra mitad se ve mejor cuidada. En todo caso ya no se usa para pasajeros, solo carga.

Half the station is abandoned and the other half is in better shape. In any case no longer used for passengers, only payload.

Río Blanco es en alusión al río de aguas blancas que baja de la cordillera.
Rio Blanco means White river in reference to this white-water river that descends from the mountains.

Cordillera de los Andes/ The Andes mountains.

Me acabo de dar cuenta que el año pasado para tomar mis primeras fotos subí a la cordillera y este año sin pensarlo lo hice de nuevo. El año pasado fuí a Farellones al este de Santiago y este año a Portillo en el camino internacional a Argentina.
I just realized that last year to take my first pictures I climbed to the mountain. This year without thinking I did it again. Last year I went to Farellones, east of Santiago and this year to Portillo, in the international road to Argentina.

Este es el Hotel Portillo, construido en 1949 sigue en uso. En esta zona se comenzó a esquiar durante la construcción del tren trasandino alrededor de 1910.
This is the Portillo Hotel, built in 1949 still in use. In this area, skiing started during the trans-Andean train constrution, around 1910.

Detrás del Hotel está esta la maravillosa Laguna del Inca, ahora sin nada de nieve pero durante el invierno todo el paisaje es blanco.
Behind the Hotel is this wonderful lake, known as Inca Lake, now without snow but during winter the whole landscape is white.

Una vista de los Andes por la subida del camino internacional, al igual que la foto anterior en invierno todo esto es blanco.
I view of The Andes Mountains now in summer, as the other photo during winter thi is all covered by snow.

Esto es lo que pasa cuando un camino se deja crecer sin cuidado. La verdad es que esta fué la solución para lograr subir hasta el paso internacional.
This is what happens when you let grow a road unattended. The true is that this was the solution to climb to the internacional crossing.

La primera foto del año pasado fué mi auto con las montañas de fondo. Curiosamente Farellones queda ubicado aproximádamente al otro lado de esos cerros.

First photo of the past year was my car at the mountains. Curiously Farellones is located behind those mountains.

2010, las primeras fotos/ 2010, first photos

Supuestamente las primeras fotos del año 2010 iban a ser de una salida fuera de Santiago pero terminaron siendo de un inciendo minutos despues de las 12:00 de la noche. Nada muy grave pero si las primeras fotos.
Supposedly the first photos of 2010 would be a short trip out of Santiago, but it ended up being about a fire, minutes after the 12:00 at night. Nothing too serious but this are the first photos.
