Cerámica el lunes/ Some pottery on monday

Hoy lunes tuve que avanzar en las piezas de cerámica que estoy preparando para le exposición de Octubre, ya que tengo que dejar el día de clases para avanzar en las pruebas de los esmaltes.
Today Monday I had to work in these pottery pieces that I'm preparing for an exhibition in October, as I have to leave classes day to work in the glazes development.

El trabajo de hoy consistió en retornear las bases y agregar textura a la superficie.
Today's work consisted of trim the feet and add texture to the surface.

Una capa delgada de esmalte cubrirá esta textura para resaltarla y en la parte lisa va un esmalte opaco con algún diseño de color.
A thin layer of glaze is going to cover this texture to highlightit and a matt one on the upper part will contain a colored design.

Otra radio/ Another radio

Sin intenciones de hacer una serie terminé tomando detalles de otra radio.
Without the intention to make a series I ended taking details of another radio.

Solo tenía una banda AM y un pequeño parlante más entrada de audífonos. El estuche era en esa epoca de cuero natural, cosido.
It only had one AM band, a small speaker and an earpiece output. The case was at that time of natural leather, stitched.

Esta fué un gran avance con respecto a la anterior radio, esta es una radio de transistores y ese detalle era tan importante que en la caja tenía que decir la cantidad de transistores que contenía, seis en este caso.
This was a great improvement over the previous radio, this is a transistor radio and that detail was so important that the box had to say the number of transistors it contained, six in this case.

En esos primeros años no era aún considerada una gran industria la de los artículos construidos en Japón.
In those early years Japanese industry was not yet considered a major industry for electronic goods.

Los componentes electrónicos, modernos para aquellos días, ahora se ven gigantescos y ya todos obsoletos.
The electronics components, modern for those days, now are huge and all obsolete.

Despues de un invierno de muy pocas lluvias estamos teniendo las primeras señales de primavera.
After a winter of very little rain we are having taking the first signs of spring.

Algo que no se ve hoy en día/ Things you don't see nowadays

La gente joven no sabe que hubo un tiempo en que se debía girar una perilla para subir el volúmen o cambiar las estaciones de radio,
Young people don't know that there was a time when it was necessary to turn a knob to turn up the volume or change radio stations,

que habia onda larga, onda media y onda corta, con las que se podía escuchar radios de otros paises, sin pagar servicios de internet claro, (Esta foto está dedicada a mi amigo Ginger Byrne en Londres)

que las radios tenían tubos que había que esperar que se calentaran para que funcionaran.

Pero estoy seguro,que lo que menos se imaginan, es que estas cosas tenían gran valor y que en aquel tiempo estas cosas se podían mandar a reparar en vez de botarlas y comprar otras.
But I'm pretty sure that young people can't even imagine that these things had great value and at that time these things could be sent to repair rather than throw them away and buy another.

Primera entrada en un nuevo tema/ First post in a new subject

Este es la primera entrada de un tema que hace mucho tiempo quería iniciar, construir autómatas y hacer escultura cinética. Esto va a tener mucha parte técnica antes de llegar a un resultado visible y los proyectos van a ser largos pero en algún momento hay que darlo por iniciado y ese día es hoy con esta foto.
This is the first post of a topic that since a long time I wanted to start, build automatas and make kinetic sculpture. This is going to have a very technical side before reaching a visible result and projects will take long time but at some point I have to start and today is that day with this photo.

Encaminado nuevamente/ Taking the road again

No he podido mantener mi meta de publicar al menos una foto diaria, así que para retomarla voy a dar una especie de giro más íntimo tomando detalles de algunos objetos,en este caso un antiguo manómetro.
I could not keep my goal of posting at least one photo every day, so to get back to it I will turn to a more intimate issue taking details of some objects, in this case an old brass pressure gauge.

Domingo en casa/ Sunday at home

Ha pasado otra semana y sigo sin inspiración para tomar fotos, más que falta de inspiración no he podido buscar nuevos temas y lugares. Así que hoy para no dejar de subir una fotos esta imagen simple.
Another week has gone and still no inspiration to take photos, rather than a lack of inspiration I could not find new themes and places. So today I'm uploading this simple image just to keep my blog updated.

Jueves, viernes de cerámica/ Pottery, thursday, friday

Ayer en clases de cerámica intenté tornear un diseño de piezas para un nuevo proyecto pero no lo logré. El problema era que son piezas altas y muy estrechas y era complicado meter la mano en la pieza para levantar la arcilla.
The problem was that these pieces are very tall and narrow and there is not enough room to put the hand inside to lift the clay.

Hoy en mi taller tuve que volver a intentarlo porque estaba muy frustrado y lo logré, estas son la tres primeras piezas secandose un poco antes de formar la boca.
I was so frustrated that today in my workshop I had to try again and I succed, these are the first three pieces drying a bit before forming the lip.

La boca ya formada y ahora esperar que se sequen pa retornear y terminar.
The lip is already formed, waiting for triming and then let it to dry.

Las piezas son para experimentar con un esmalte opaco y que no escurra para hacer un diseño sobre cubierta como el de este dibujo.The pieces are to experiment with a mat glaze that does not run to make an over-glaze decoration like this drawing.

Día del niño/ Children's day

Hoy se celebró el día del niño entonces corresponde unas pocas fotos de niños.
Today it was celebrated children's day then it is a few photos of them.

Jueves de cerámica, primer esmalte/ Pottery Thursday, first glaze

Finalmente estamos trabajando con nuestros propios esmaltes y estas son las primeras piezas terminadas.
Finally we are working with our own glazes and these are the first pieces finished.

Este esmalte resultó de las primeras pruebas y funciona bastante bien sin modificaciones.
This glaze came up in the first test batch and it works pretty well without modifications.

Tiene una terminación satinada y da algunas texturas interesantes.
It has a satin finish and also some interesting textures.

El interior es celeste, resultó de una casualidad pero combina bien con el color exterior.
The interior is pale blue, it was a the result of a mistake but it combines very well with the exterior color.

Este jarro es parte del juego y ahora estoy esmaltando unas tazas en los mismos colores.
This jug is a matching part of a set and now I'm glazing a few cups in the same colors.

Finalmente estos pocillos también llevan el mismo esmalte.
Finally these small bowls also have the same glaze.

Camino a El Yeso/ Road to El Yeso reservoir

Ayer fuí a este lugar cerca de Santiago, camino al embalse el Yeso, estos grandiosos paisajes solo están a una hora y media de camino desde mi casa, no en muchos paises se tiene esto.
Yesterday I went to this place near Santiago, road to El Yeso reservoir, these great landscapes are only at one hour and a half away from my house, not many countries have this.

La última parte estaba bastante nevado, así que no pude avanzar mucho más, aunque el camino debe internarse aún unos 30 kilometros más.
The last part of the road was pretty snowy, so I could not go much further, though the road has still some 30 kilometers more to go.
