Primer Cuasimodo en Colina 2013/ First Quasimodo in olina 2013

Como todos los años acá en Chile el domingo siguiente a semana santa se celebra el Cuasimodo donde el sacerdote católico lleva la eucaristía a los ancianos y enfermos que no pueden asistir a la iglesia. Este año el primer cuasimodo de Colina se llevó a cabo el domingo 7 de abril.
As every year here in Chile on the first Sunday after Easter is celebrated Quasimodo where the Catholic priest brings the Eucharist to the sick and elderly who can not attend church. This year the first Quasimodo in Colina took place on Sunday April 7.

Esta tradición nace en la colonia cuando el sacerdote era acompañado por los caminos rurales a que no fuera asaltado y le fueran robados los ornamentos y utensilios de la misa.
This tradition was born in the colony when the priest was accompanied along the rural roads to not be assaulted and robbed his mass ornaments and utensils.

Es también costumbre correr con grandes banderas chilenas.

It is also used to ride with big Chilean flags.

Para esto el sacerdote es acompañado de huasos a caballo ataviados de sus trajes tradicionales más una bandana y una capa corta, llamada esclavina, todo decorado con motivos religiosos.
To this the priest is accompanied by huasos riding horses wearing their traditional costumes, a bandana and a short cape called esclavina, decorated with religious motifs.

Los padres llevan a sus niños ataviados con las ropas tradicionales y se espera que cuando grandes continuen con la tradición.
Parents bring their children along dressed in traditional clothes and is expected from them to continue this tradition when they grow up.

Carpintería/ Carpentry

Decidí que ye es hora de terminar mi autómata Cazador de Tormentas así que comencé a trabajar en el exhibidor.
I decided it is time to end my storm chaser automata so I started to work in the exhibition booth.

El proyecto es una combinación de materiales entre madera. sólida, terciado y MDF con tecnicas normales de carpintería como encolado y entarugado. Va a ir pintado así que no importa, espero.
The project is a combination of materials including solid wood, plywood and MDF with normal woodworking techniques such as gluing and dowelling. It will be painted so it doesn't matter.

Claro que a veces es complicado cuando al mismo tiempo hay que encolar cuatro patas a cuatro esquinas y agregar cuatro travesaños que incluyen ocho tarugos.
Of course, sometimes it is difficult when simultaneously you have to glue four legs to four corners which means eight sides and four rails including eight dowels.

Pero finalmente lo logré aunque siempre faltan manos y prensas y hay que improvisar con todo lo que se tiene a mano.
But finally I did it but you always need more hands and clamps and have to improvise with what you have on hand.

Jueves de cerámica 2013/ Pottery thursday 2013

El primer trabajo para este año 2013 es terminar unas base de lámparas que comencé el año pasado, la verdad es que tuve que partir nuevamente desde cero ya que se habia secado la pasta.
The first job for this year 2013 is to finish a lamp base that I had began last year, the truth is that I had to start again from scratch because the clay had dried.

Para poner el porta lámparas y darle una mejor terminación le agregué un doble escalón en la parte superior.
To put the lamp holder and give a better finish I added a double step at the top.

Las ventanas y texturas son las mismas que ocupé en la pila que hice el año pasado.

The windows and textures are the same that I used on the fountain that I did last year.

Cámara estenopeica digital/ Digital pinhole camera

Hoy me puse a experimentar para hacer una cámara estenopéica con mi cámara digital, lo que consiste en sacar el lente y sustituirlo por una lámina de aluminio con un minúsculo agujero. El resultado es este, el tiempo de esposición no fué tan lento como yo pensaba, fué entre 1/8 a 1/2 segundo, si resultaron más borrosas de lo que yo esperaba.

Today I experimenting to make a pinhole camera with my digital camera, which consists of removing the lens and replacing it with an aluminum foil with a tiny hole. The result is this, the exposure time was not as slow as I thought, was between 1/8 to 1/2 second, but htey were more blurred than I expected.

Esta es la primera foto que saque y la dejo porque es un guiño al primer negativo fotográfico de la historia producido por Henry Fox Talbot.
This is the first picture I took and it is a nod to the first photographic negative of history produced by Henry Fox Talbot.

La distancia focal resultante fué un poco mayor que el lente normal, intente dejar la lámina lo más cerca del plano focal pero me lo impidió el espejo de la cámara. Hubiera preferido tener algo más cercano a un gran angular pero no se pudo.
The resulting focal length was a bit larger than the normal lens, I tried to put the pinhole very close to the focal plane but I couldn´t because the camera mirror. I would rather have something closer to a wide angle but I failed.

Estas secuencias fueron tomadas en blanco y negro luego en color, se editaron el contraste e intensidad.
These sequences were taken in black and white then in color, contrast and intensity were edited.

Mi gato/ My cat

Una noticia que no va a salir en ningún canal de televisión, que no se va a publicar en ningún diario ni revista: Hoy murió mi gato, muchos años me acompañó, dormía conmigo, me acompañaba a caminar por el patio y ahora se quedó en esta casa para siempre. Estoy muy triste.
A story that will not go on any TV channel, not be published in any newspaper or magazine: Today my cat died, many years he accompanied me, slept with me, walked along with me through the backyard and now he will stay in this house forever. I'm very sad.

Tranque/ Levee

Me imagino que este tranque debería estar mucho más lleno pero el bajo nivel demuestra la sequía que afecta la zona este último tiempo. Me he dado cuenta que en general en mis fotos de este tipo incluyo en el primer plano un objeto hecho por le hombre, también no incluyo personas entonces la presencia de ese objeto sea una forma velada de incluir la presencia del ser humano.
I imagine that this dam would with more water but the low level shows the drought in the area lately. I've noticed that in general in my photos of this type I include in the foreground a man-made object but I don't include people, then, this object is a veiled attempt to include the presence of human beings.

Camino la Virgen/ Virgin Road

Acá cerca hay un pequeño camino de tierra que se llama camino la Virgen, ahora sé porqué se llama así, al final de ese camino está esta imagen de la Virgen María.
Nearby there is a small dirt road called the Virgin way, now I know why it is called so, at the end of that path there is this image of the Virgin Mary.

El año pasado tomé fotos del Cuasimodo en este camino pero no había llegado hasta esta imagen de la Virgen.
Last year I took pictures of Quasimodo in this road but I didn't get to this image of the Virgin.

Un detalle/ A detail

 Es increible ver que esta flor, que debe tener unos 8 cm. de diámetro realmente está constituida por varios cientos de pequeñas flores como se ve en la foto de abajo, cada una con su pistilo, estambre, petalos y polen.
It's amazing to see this flower, which should be about 8 cm. diameter actually consists of several hundred of small flowers as seen in the photo below, each with its pistil, stamen, petals and pollen.

La compañia minera AngloAmerican inauguró hace poco el Parque Explorador Quilapilún que es un centro de investigación y difusión de la flora nativa de la zona metropolitana. El parque está abierto al público pero las instalaciones como el centro interpretativo, cafe y tienda aún no funcionan. Cuando funcione al 100% habrán visitas guiadas. http://www.parquequilapilun.cl/

Anglo American mining company has recently opened Quilapilún Explorer Park which is a center for the research and diffusion of the native flora of the metropolitan area. The park is open to the public but facilities such as interpretive center, coffee shop are not working. When is operating at 100% it will have guided tours. http://www.parquequilapilun.cl/
